If we did drop slightly and finish 6th, would we qualify for the Europa league next year if man city finish in the top 4?

Their was a lot of talk about Man City on Talksport this morning especially Guardiola taking the job and the possibility of City not being in the Champs League next season. Colin Murray raised a particularly interesting point.
Should Man City be out of the top four at the end of the season and yet somehow be in the Champions League Final and playing against Bayern Munich, what would Guardiola do?
If Bayern win, He will be plying his trade next season in the EL. This would be a major conflict of interest as would it be should Bayern play City in any round of this season's Champions League.

We're currently 14th in the Fair Play table, although given that there's no european qualification on offer any more it doesn't really matter. Clubs who win get money I believe.

We're going to win the Cup and finish 3rd. So stop worrying.

Brilliantly, we've only had 74 sent off this season

This is West Ham isn't it. Some unlikely unprecedented freak set of circumstances will mean where ever we finish it won't be enough.

Too complicated for my tired old brain: what I will say though is Liverpool have NO CHANCE against Dortmund nor will they get into top 6, so exclude them from the calcs.

Funny that we could actually win the FA cup and finish top 6, allowing a club like Liverpool an extra place!

Anyone checked how we are doing in the fair play league?

ioc -They could implode and finish say 6th, but then I think they would make us almost nailed on for 5th. I don't think we will finish behind L'Pool, S'oton and god forbid Stoke, now.

Probably though watching City yesterday and Kompany being out has me concerned. Them doing a nose dive makes 6th a lot more tricky.
Just win the Cup and try for 4th I guess. City should not win the Champions League and Liverpool still look fragile enough to be gone next round in Europa. So 4th has to be safe doesn't it?

Finish 4th = CL
Finish 5th or 6th = EL
I'd be surprised if it panned out any different to that.

Up stupidly early for some reason and saw this.
Some clarifications needed there.
1) "If Liverpool win Europa, we could still qualify if we finish 6th." Probably but...
I.want.that.one 3:13 Mon Mar 21 is leading you astray a little. From the regulations:
"3.06 The UEFA Europa League titleholder is admitted to the UEFA Champions League, at the entry stage determined by Article 3 of the Regulations of the UEFA Champions League.
- If the UEFA Europa League titleholder qualifies for the UEFA Europa League through one of its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its association is entitled in the UEFA Europa League is decreased by one. -
The created vacancy is rebalanced accordingly and priority for the UEFA Europa League is given to the domestic cup winners (in accordance with the entry stage as per the access list)."
"Decreased by one" is the key wording and since we have 2 places filled with domestic Cup winners that means there would technically be no Europa League qualification via the league.
So if Liverpool won it and finished 5th, 6th would not be automatically a EL spot. Though if City stayed where they are (in the CL) their League Cup spot would be transfer to 6th.
So there are scenarios (helped by City winning the League Cup) where 6th would be EL but they are not straight forward.
There are also scenarios if both City and Liverpool were to win in Europe, that could "punish," if you want, teams qualifying through the league. But I will leave that them unless you want me to quote them.
2) "If city win the Europa and we finish 5th, them above us, we qualify for champions league"
City can't win the Europa. If you mean the Champions League then they would be at least 4th and that would be Champions League and nothing would change. (Other than them not having to do the qualifying round as would be if they were 4th and did not win it)
Can't think of a scenario where 5th would be CL (unless they winner a European Cup) based on this
3.08 Exceptionally, an association may be represented by five clubs in the competition if the UEFA Champions League and/or UEFA Europa League titleholder does not also qualify through its domestic championship.
So if winners qualify via 1-4 there are still 4 ie no extra. The extra comes if they are outside the top 4. So the 5th spot is theirs or not a Champions League spot.

Thanks, think I've got it!
Barring the obvious winning fa cup etc.
City come in top 5 us 6th, we qualify for the Europa - by default of them winning league cup.
If man utd manage to beat us in fa cup and go on to win it, and finish top 5 and us 6th we qualify
If city win the Europa and we finish 5th, them above us, we qualify for champions league
If Liverpool win Europa, we could still qualify if we finish 6th.
Any others?

Champions league is the holy grail which will bring in champions league quality players for us to step up a level.

If an english team wins the europa outside of the top 4 then we will have 5 entries.
It has been changed as to not punish teams qualifying through the league

Yep, winner of Europa qualifies for champions league, but a country can have no more than 4 teams, so then if Liverpool or city win, potentially the top 3 qualify, then 4th spot would get the Europa. But, city have qualified for Europa already through the league cup, so if they were to finish 5th - and neither win the Europa, us finish 6th, would we still get into Europe?

I mentioned that in another post and it refers to Man City as well.but not quite sure how it works?
"I read somewhere that if Liverpool and Man City win their respective European Competitions (unlikely I know) and if they finish outside the top 4 then whoever finishes 4th won't qualify for the Champions League, only the Europa League??
Not sure if they both have to win in Europe for this scenario to happen or if only one of them needs to win?!"

I don't care either way. We have progressed nicely, whatever the outcome now. I won't be disappointed. I don't want us to overreach ourselves like Leicester and the Y's. With CL next season they'll struggle. Liverpool without europe nearly won the league, with CL they were shit. Chelsea walked it last season, won't even qualify for europe now, but will probably be better off without it in the league next season.

Liverpool could fuck things up for a few teams by winning the Europa league. im hoping Dortmund are too strong for them. it'd just be our luck to finish fourth and be denied by them cunts winning that
